Conyers Threatens Subpoenas on Torture and
Interrogation Memos
(Washington, DC)- Today,
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) sent letters to
former Deputy Assistant Attorney General John C. Yoo, Chief of Staff to the Vice
President David Addington, and former Attorney General John Ashcroft urging them
to agree to testify voluntarily at the Committee's upcoming hearing about the recently
released Office of Legal Counsel memos on torture and interrogation,
and related subjects.
In each of the letters, Conyers provides a May 2 deadline for response or, he says, "I will have no choice but to
consider the use of compulsory process."
The letters to the
potential witnesses are attached, along with their responses to the Committee's
original invitation.
