Live-blogging what is already shaping up to be another day of intense spin, esp by the Clinton campaign and everyone directly or indirectly supporting the Clintons--
9:55 a.m. on MSNBC--'morning Joe' Scarborough's task of helping Hillary Clinton secure the Democratic nomination, so the GOP has a better shot at winning in fall, just got harder overnight. Abruptly, devastatingly, much harder: New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Clinton 'superdelegate', was allegedly caught in federal wiretaps doing apparently repeat business with a very expensive prostitution company. This from the guy who, now married 20 years and the father of three girls, made his name prosecuting high-flying crooks. Not that he went far enough, of course. Wall Street is reacting with glee: Dow is up over 250.
Wall Street needs to pull in its horns. I do not think that Bill Clinton's lucrative business, direct and indirect, with interests in China bode well for the status quo in the financial sector. More on that later.
For now, Scarb and sidekick are tossing around the notion that the Spitzer flameout will hurt the Dems, not Hillary Clinton nonono. Scarb in particular is really laboring over this one.
Next up: "Who is the real frontrunner?" --At least they are consistent in their slant. Any means possible to boost Clinton and downgrade Obama.
Predictably, Hillary Clinton appeared with Scarborough--so much for consideration for the Klausutis family--after the Ohio and Texas primaries. Bill Clinton similarly engaged with Rush Limbaugh, who has urged Republicans to cross over and vote for Clinton.
Not subtle, but might be effective. This stunt of crossing over to vote for the weaker opponent has a long and hearty tradition in Texas politics. I remember hearing it discussed in my childhood.
