WHAT WILL GASOLINE COST AFTER THE ELECTION? --Over the past year, the price of filling up the tank has gone down, somewhat blunting public outrage over high fuel prices, overpaid CEOs, and astronomical oil company profits.
It must be noted that basically this price decline has occurred over the duration of the extended campaign season. So, key question: Will it continue after November 4th? The question gets new punch from ExxonMobil's newest quarterly report, showing as CNN reports this morning that ExxonMobil has now received the highest quarterly profit ever recorded by a U.S. company: more » Wednesday, October 29

POLLS, INACCURACY, AND FALSE HISTORY Two points containing some actual validity are being widely bruited in current news accounts: · All the polls show Barack Obama solidly ahead of John McCain; and · Opinion polls are inherently questionable, not to be mistaken for votes. So far, so good. But we still have a ways to go, as ... more » Monday, October 27

CNN REPORTS VOTER PURGING --Somewhat belatedly it would seem, but CNN today reports that an American, U.S.-born college student in Georgia has received a letter from the state of Georgia saying that she cannot vote because she is not an American citizen. "ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- College senior Kyla Berry was looking forward to voting in her first presidential election, even carrying her voter registration card in her wallet. " But about two weeks ago, Berry got disturbing news from local election officials. "This office has received notification from the state of Georgia indicating that you are not a ... more »

KUDOS TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES FOR A GOOD ARTICLE ON SLOTS IN MARYLAND (OPPOSING SLOTS) --The Washington Post having been entirely too kind to the major, corporate-funded pro-slots campaign in Maryland, it is good to see that the rightwing Washington Times is picking up the slack at least for today.
Today's front-page article titled "Md. slots unlikely to hit budget figures: State trends, new study see revenue shortfall" hits the pro-slots argument right where it hurts, appropriately, the most. The campaign for slot machines has been pushing, for years, some vague notion that slots will cure the state's budget crunch ... more » Sunday, October 26

SUNDAY MORNING NO-SHOW ON THE TALK SHOWS: GOP GAME PLAN FOR THE END GAME --If the Republicans have strategized an end game for the last week of the presidential campaign, it is not being revealed, or initiated, on the Sunday morning talk shows today.
Thus far, the candidate and his surrogates including Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota--on This Week with George Stephanopoulos--have been temporizing. Questions about the fact that Sen. Obama leads in critical opinion polls have been canvassed, of course, but to date no wild counterattack--that is, no new wild counterattack. As of this hour, several key talking ... more » Thursday, October 23

TOMMY LEE JONES CAN NO LONGER FLY AS TOM JONES --Every tiny step in the direction of rationality is that tiny step forward, so the newest report from our 'homeland security' dept does include glimmers of good news.
One problem plaguing the watch lists used by government and the airline industry--to check whether individuals planning violent acts are boarding aircraft--has been that the lists are wrong. The lists, instead of being analogous to sworn testimony in a court--the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth--have turned out to be analogous more to our illegal vote purging and vote caging apparatus. This would ... more » Wednesday, October 22

THE POLITICAL SCUM, USING A DYING GRANDMOTHER TO LIE ABOUT OBAMA --I suppose it is ridiculous to feel surprised, but some individuals are indeed seizing on Obama's visit to his ailing grandmother, in Hawaii, as a means to lie about Obama's birth.
The lie, already repeatedly exposed as such even by the MSM, is the falsehood that Obama was not born in the USA. He was, of course. He was born in Hawaii, as his official birth certificate shows clearly. A related lie is that Sen. Obama has not 'released' his birth certificate, and people who repeat this one tend ... more »

ON STEALING THE ELECTION --FROM CONGRESSMAN WEXLER
Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) has issued a good statement on some of the challenges facing a legitimate peaceful transmission of power over coming days: "Wexler: Steal the Election Once Shame on Me, Steal it Twice . . ."I saw it with my own eyes: The Bush and GOP machine stole the 2000 election and the presidency in Florida (not to mention Ohio in 2004) and the results have been catastrophic for our nation and the world."Don't take my word for it - read the dissent of Supreme Court Justices Stevens, Breyer ... more » Monday, October 20

INFRASTRUCTURE, Part 1: WHAT INFRASTRUCTURE INCLUDES –Our voting systems. Even aside from GOP efforts at vote suppression, every American election nowadays demonstrates the problems, errors, inconveniences involved in a process fundamental to the peaceful transmission of power, i.e. our democratic system of government. COLIN POWELL ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA --This morning on Meet the Press with Tom Brokaw, Gen. Colin Powell is as this is written endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for the White House.
Praising both men and referring more than once to his long friendship with Sen. John McCain, Powell also expressed concern over McCain's lack of a firm stance on some of the GOP-affiliated campaign ads; expressed concern over the choice of Sarah Palin for Vice President; and especially expressed concern over McCain's apparent lack of steadiness in reacting to current economic instabilities. In contrast, Powell said, Barack Obama has consistently shown--over ... more » Friday, October 10

ELECTION FRAUD BEING PUT IN PLACE BY GOP, TRYING TO PULL IN USA PATRICK J. FITZGERALD
As Brad Friedman of Bradblog notes, the GOP, running scared, is off and running on its bogus pursuit of 'voter fraud.' The 'voter fraud' non-starter, of course, has been going on for several years. Unlike the giant ills and cruelties of genuine election fraud--vote suppression via bogus campaign rhetoric; putting around fliers telling people the wrong place and time to vote or telling them they will be subject to arrest for traffic violations if they show up; sending too few voting machines to overcrowded ... more » Tuesday, October 7

Tuning in to MSNBC one evening, and having the misfortune to tune in at a time when MSNBC was running our current version of Meet the Press, I caught Brokaw doing his usual--running clips of McCain and Obama, selected to present the former at his most credible and to exclude any of the best (top 90 percent) public statements by Obama.
btw, one notes that the short video clips of McCain and Palin are exclusively from camera angles that obscures the small size of their crowds. --But of course those applause lines are routinely shown with the applause. (Too ... more » Friday, October 3
